DURING WINTERNIGHTS, MAKERS AND THE AUDIENCE BUILD EXPERIENCES TOGETHER

The two-day Winternights festival in Maastricht shows no productions, no performances, but work that is still being made. The work also forms a more intimate bond with the spectator than most theatre, because it invariably takes place on the border between on-site performance and installation. Spectators share the floor with the performers, or even completely take over the role of the performer.
Spectators are not only invited to the work, but also involved in the process of its creation, the preparatory maneuvers. This has created a whole range of presentation formats, from research reports to near-performances. Feedback is collected by allowing the audience of insiders and laymen to talk to each other after the presentation, or, for example, by handing out a telephone number on which people can leave a message afterwards.
