Biography
Meryem Bayram lives and works in Antwerp, Belgium. She graduated as a sculptor at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp and then studied scenography at POPOK in Antwerp. Since 2006, she has been the artistic employee of Platform 0090 for visual arts.
In the work of Meryem Bayram, the central driver is an evolving relationship between human behavior on the one hand and a constructed spatial environment on the other.
Using basic materials such as wood, cardboard and elastic, she creates installations that trace and reform the contours of a physical space, and in the same gesture challenge bodies to appropriate and transform that space.
By creating specific encounters between body and material, she exposes tensions between the visible and the invisible, the composed and the improvised, and profiles connection points by constantly reinventing new obstacles.

For The Image Generator Bayram dissects parts of utilitarian objects that she has found during walks in various cities and landscapes throughout Europe.
In search of common archetypes, she assembles them into a dialogue with each other, and the specific space. abstracting them from their functional use, generating new affinities and possible histories and genealogies.
From this simultaneous experience of the known and the unknown, a new language arises, just when we thought we’d seen it all.
