Biography
In her hybrid work, Enrica Camporesi builds atmospheres, metaphors and mythologies for the daily practice of sharing meanings that characterizes human collectivities.
Language(s) is one of them: as a theater maker and researcher, Enrica Camporesi plays with what language means and how we do and change things with our words. In her project Oertaal:oefeningen (2020 – ongoing) she spreads an invented myth in the form of theater/performance, articles, lectures and workshops.
Based on her life experience as a non-native speaker and as a committed outsider in different countries (Lebanon, France, Egypt, Belgium) and based on her work in the social sector, Enrica questions the (making of) framework for references, conventions and contexts. And their contingency.
In “Performing the self – the interview” (2017-20), a theatre performance and installation together with visual artist Elena Mazzi, she gave shape to the impossible encounter between a protection officer and an asylum seeker before the arrival of the interpreter (script published in 2018 by Thalie Art Foundation, Brussels).
Enrica combines different media (performance, theatre and storytelling, writing, visuals, …) and strategies (multilingualism, unreliable/simultaneous translations, live drawings, participatory happenings and playful instructions), in artistic dialogue with other multidisciplinary makers.
In 2021, she received a development grant from the Flemish government and attended the Theatre Academy of Maastricht. She has a master’s degree in Arabic language, history and literature (University of Venice).
