newpolyphonies rewired
Myriam Van Imschoot
Description
In newpolyphonies rewired, an installation by Myriam Van Imschoot, HYOID and Walpurgis, twenty small loudspeakers take the visitor on a journey of constant change: soundscapes appear, only to crawl under the skin again.
The installation transcends any form of recognition and expectation: although the listener suspects to hear the drone of aeroplanes, the hum of insects or the gliding tones of synths, – as always in Van Imschoot’s work – all the sounds come solely from singers who deploy nothing more nor less than their bodies and voices, without any technological additions. The installation shows that when boundaries between man, animal and machine disappear, new avenues for fluid coexistence reveal themselves.
newpolyphonies rewired is based on the recordings of the concert newpolyphonies, where 4 singers from HYOID along with 17 local performers performed on stage at the Muziekcentrum De Bijloke. Rewiring this performance takes the work to a new level of immersion.
